Viewpoint: Aerospace industry will need help – Belfast Telegraph

In aerospace, Northern Ireland has always punched well above its weight. The Shorts Skyvan, Shorts 360 and Shorts Belfast freighter were all truly iconic in their heyday, and indeed some are still flying in various parts of the world.

ore recently, the re-emergence of Shorts as a subsidiary of the Bombardier company, and work for Boeing, Rolls-Royce, General Electric and Pratt & Whitney has made it one of our leading exporters.

However, a trade union has warned that up to 1,800 jobs are threatened due to the turbulence in the aircraft industry because of Covid-19.
